Shaista Malik, MD, PhD, MPH has been leading the innovative integrative health programs at the University of California Irvine (UCI), bringing a holistic approach to healthcare. Under her leadership, UCI has become a national leader in the integrative health clinical delivery model. As a physician scientist, she is an investigator on several National Institute of Health (NIH) grants and foundation awards investigating the genetics and root causes of heart disease, the use of acupuncture in hypertension, and the use of a teaching kitchen curriculum for cardiometabolic health. Dr. Malik has contributed to national guidelines on training cardiologists and co-authored the American College of Cardiology's position paper on cardiovascular imaging in diabetes. She completed her undergraduate work at Stanford University and earned her Master's in Public Health and PhD at UCLA. She holds the positions of Founding Associate Vice Chancellor of Integrative Health and Founding Executive Director of the Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute at UC Irvine. Dr. Malik was named Woman of the Year for the 73rd California Assembly District by Assemblywoman Cottie-Petris in 2023. (Irvine, CA)
